Public Specialty Insurance Company
A major public specialty insurance company was facing a crisis with their $250 million Guidewire implementation. Despite 12 months of effort, the dysfunctional software development team of 25 members had failed to produce any deployable code. The project was significantly behind schedule and over budget, putting the entire claims division transformation at risk.
As Interim IT Director, I implemented a rapid turnaround strategy: 1) Team Restructuring: Reorganized the software development team to improve communication and accountability, established clear roles and responsibilities, and implemented effective coaching protocols. 2) Agile Process Re-engineering: Redesigned the Agile DevOps processes to focus on deliverable outcomes, implemented proper sprint planning and ceremonies, and created effective code review procedures. 3) Stakeholder Management: Built collaborative relationships with peer Project Managers and internal IT heads, and created transparent communication channels. 4) Succession Planning: Identified requirements for permanent position, led the recruiting process, and designed comprehensive onboarding program.
Development Velocity: Enabled team to promote vetted code to QA within 2 months. Stakeholder Confidence: Established continuous code promotions to Customer Acceptance within 3 months. Leadership Continuity: Successfully recruited and onboarded permanent IT Director within 6 months. Project Recovery: Put the stalled $250M implementation back on track toward successful completion.
