Global 100 Marine Diesel Engine Distributor — Project 1 of 4 · 18 Months · JDE World A7.3 Application Lead for Manufacturing
Client Challenge
Annual model changes across the commercial and leisure engine lines were exponentially complicating supply chain management
Customers were confused about which model they were buying, and Order-to-Cash pricing errors multiplied with every model year
Client Solution
Revision Hierarchy: Designed a year-over-year model revision hierarchy and implemented it on JDE multi-level Bills of Material
Global S&OP: Formalized global forecasting and SCM processes on an S&OP framework with revised JDE Forecasting and DRP
Custom CPFR System: Designed and developed a Collaborative Planning, Forecasting & Replenishment system integrated with JDE — historical sales by customer, product line, product, quantity, price, and date; weekly and monthly forecast generation; “A” customer collaborative forecast entry with pre-finalization adjustment
Sell-Through Logic: Customized JDE’s detail and summary forecasting programs to honor BOM effectivity dates in DRP, so each annual engine model sold through before its successor released; instituted rate-based scheduling and vendor scheduling for transatlantic ordering
Coordination: Worked with Sweden headquarters to coordinate release of annual model revisions and pricing
Client Impact Results
Customer confusion and Order-to-Cash pricing issues from annual model changes eliminated
Monthly S&OP cadence formalized with global coordination between US distribution and European manufacturing
