Company Type

Volvo Penta of the Americas, the marine and industrial engine and propulsion division of the Volvo Group; Application Lead for Manufacturing (Forecasting, Material Planning, Rate-Based Scheduling); annual model changes were exponentially complicating the supply chain.

What Drove the Need
  • Annual model revisions caused customer confusion and Order-to-Cash pricing issues

  • Each engine model had to sell through before its successor released — JDE's standard forecasting could not honor BOM effectivity dates in DRP

Business Impact
  • Formalized global S&OP; eliminated customer confusion and OTC pricing issues from annual model changes (Case 20)

Systems/Data Integration
  • Integrated with JDE World; drives MRP, rate-based scheduling, and vendor scheduling for transatlantic ordering and shipping of core products

Design
  • Generation of historical sales records; product-line aggregation; “A” customer collaborative forecast entry with comparison and pre-finalization adjustment

  • Sophisticated linking of historical records across product-revision history using a year-over-year model-revision hierarchy on JDE multi-level BOMs

  • JDE detail and summary forecasting programs customized to honor BOM effectivity dates in DRP; rate-based scheduling and vendor scheduling instituted

Technology Stack
  • RPG on AS/400-DB2

  • JDE World A7.3 (Forecasting, DRP, multi-level BOMs, Material Planning, Rate-Based Scheduling)

Collaborative Planning, Forecasting & Replenishment (CPFR) System

Custom CPFR system integrated with JDE World A7.3: historical sales by customer, product line, product, quantity, price, and date; weekly and monthly forecast generation; “A” customer collaborative forecast entry; JDE forecasting programs customized to honor BOM effectivity dates in DRP.
