Company Type

Macmillan / MPS Distribution, the distribution and fulfillment plant of an international book publisher, facing massive Amazon chargebacks.

What Drove the Need
  • Reconciliation of invoice payments, credits, and chargebacks ran across more than 18 Access databases, 60+ Excel workbooks, and dozens of paper documents

  • No single point of truth; every reconciliation was manual data processing

Business Impact
  • Estimated elimination of over 90% of manual data processing and a potential ~$1M OpEx reduction (Case 18)

Systems/Data Integration
  • Auto-generation of A/R and G/L transactions into the client's order/invoice/A/R/G/L system; SAP S/4HANA future state mapped via GLI1/GLI2

Design
  • “Future-State Think Tank” sessions with the users who owned the Access sprawl; current- and future-state conceptual data mapping; data-model standardization

  • Design fundamentals: atomic single-point-of-truth data, reusable component architecture, two-click navigation, rule-based automation of repetitive tasks, system and database activity logging

  • Platform services separated from the domain module: Tenant App core + Recon App add-on

Technology Stack
  • Oracle Database; Oracle APEX 5.1; PL/SQL and SQL

  • Oracle REST Data Services (ORDS); Oracle Data Integrator (ETL); Simple Oracle Document Access (SODA)

  • Oracle Analytics/ML (see SE-19)

Oracle APEX A/R Invoice Payments, Credits & Chargeback Reconciliation Application (FSRP)

Future-State Reconciliation Process platform: a multi-tenant Tenant App core (tenants, roles, configurable statused workflow, rules/heuristics engine, case management, activity logging) plus a Recon App add-on with dashboards, research and resolution pages, data-warehouse queries, and auto-generated A/R and G/L transactions.
